Alphamin has a highly experienced management team with a positive track record of developing and operating mines in the DRC. Boris Kamstra is a passionate business leader with the appropriate experience and drive to lead the Alphamin team and the ABM project. He has a passion for Africa and the varied opportunities it holds. He is fortunate to enjoy the support of a highly experienced and capable management team. They have a proven track record of developing and operating mines across the globe including in the DRC’s unique environment.

Alphamin’s local ABM operations are led by Richard Robinson. He is committed to adding value to the people of the DRC. He was born in the DRC and lives as a permanent resident in North Kivu. After he completed his PhD in the USA he returned to the DRC to add further value to his country of birth. Richard has a strong understanding of the local dynamics and is well respected due to his track record and positive business impact. Prior to joining Alphamin, Eoin O’Driscoll spent four years working on gold and copper projects in the DRC. Trevor Faber has completed the successful construction and commissioning of the US$220 million Kinsenda Copper Project in the DRC. As a result, the ABM management team has extensive local knowledge and strong local relationships in the DRC, which makes it easier to do business there.

Panel of experts

Tony Cox has been a mining consultant for RHDHV (formerly known as Turgis Consulting) in the field of mechanisation and deep level massive mining, since 1999. He has recently become part of the project team, following the appointment of DRA Projects as the company’s preferred EPCM contractor. He has 50 years’ experience in the mining industry, the bulk of which has been in large underground mining, employing a wide range of mining methods suited to mechanisation. A high proportion of his experience has been in large open stoping and caving methods, particularly sub-level caving (11 years). This experience has extended to depths of 2 500m at Target and South Deep mines. As General Manager: Strategic Planning at Ashanti Goldfields he was responsible for the ore reserves generation in 1996 and 1997 under the JORC code.

Ian Gordon Hall Dun (BSc (Eng) and MSc) was the Director of Process Development at MINERACAO TABOCA SA (Brazil) – a company that was purchased by MINSUR SA. MINSUR SA owns and operates San Rafael, a high-grade, hard rock tin mine, which is considered to be the closest deposit to Bisie in the world. Ian has in excess of 43 years’ experience in plant metallurgy and mineral process management and engineering. He has deep functional knowledge of large gravity processing and large gravity circuit concentrating, the expansion of tin flotation circuits, the development and implementation of a (niobium, tantalum) 2O5 flotation circuit and experience in Falcon Gravity Gradiometry Technology. He has published articles in several industry magazines, including Mining Magazine. At the 2005 he won the National Peruvian Mining Award for his article Recovery of Fine Cassiterite from Old Tailing. Ian has joined the Alphamin team to assist optimising Alphamin’s processing plant design.
